Women in Leadership (WIL) is a one-day virtual meeting for aspiring, new and experienced leaders in healthcare simulation.  A partnership between the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL), and the Association for SP Educators (ASPE), this exciting virtual meeting promises an interactive day of personal and professional development featuring renowned speakers, vigorous discussion, and relationship-building. 

WIL 2022 Virtual Meeting Objectives:

  • Examine civility, safety, and advocacy strategies to promote resiliency;
  • Identify key components of resilience;
  • Explore how resilience affects authentic relationships and civility; and
  • Practice experiential learning opportunities to promote civil and healthy work environments.

Women in Leadership Symposium Background

The Women in Leadership (WIL) Symposium was created to bring together curious and aspiring, new, and experienced leaders in healthcare simulation. The challenges and opportunities for female healthcare simulation professionals include the development of leadership skills in all professional sectors (clinicians of all stripes, operations specialists, engineers, educators, administrators, and industry) in environments that often lack built-in resources and networks in their professional development.

Keynote Session

Title: Achieving Civility Excellence! Best Practices to Inspire Healthy Work Environments 

Overview: Imagine an enjoyable workplace—an environment where you feel valued, empowered, and respected. A welcoming place where you know you belong and can truly thrive in your career. This engaging and thought-provoking session provides a deepened and empirical understanding of workplace incivility, bullying, and other workplace aggressions and their detrimental impact on individuals, teams, organizations, and patient care. Join Dr. Cynthia Clark, a renowned researcher, professor, and author for a stimulating session to explore best practices to build and sustain civility and healthy work environments.


  • Summarize the State of the Science regarding civility, incivility, and other workplace aggressions in healthcare;
  • Participate in a reflective activity to assess civility acumen; and
  • Examine a variety of evidence-based strategies to foster civility and healthy work environments.

Panel Objectives:

  • Provide insights for self-advocacy and building resilience in communities;
  • Explore experiences and lessons learned with incivility; and
  • Discuss how panelists create and maintain a safe environment.

Hands-On Activity/Interactive Session

  • There will be a 60-minute session led by WIL planning team members where you will join your peers in a breakout room to develop a simulation.
  • Please be prepared to participate. (Video and audio are highly encouraged.)

Hands-On Activity/Interactive Session Objectives:

  • Identify potential solutions using strategies for building resilience;
  • Apply how you can use civility to build resilience and a civil and healthy work environment; and
  • Reflect on lessons learned and strategies to incorporate in future practice.


Women in Leadership Cost: $75 USD

ASPE Membership is not required.


Accreditation Statement

In support of improving patient care, the Society for Simulation in Healthcare is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive a maximum of 4.5 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) Credits for learning and change.

Interprofessional Continuing Education (ICPE) Mission Statement

The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) will deliver professional development opportunities for interprofessional healthcare teams working to improve the practice of healthcare through simulation-based education. This mission will be accomplished through the provision of interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) activities designed to improve both individual and team performance in simulation.
