Bylaws

The health of an organization is measured by its by-laws. ASPE's By-laws provide the organization with a solid operating foundation yet still allow the flexibility required in an ever-changing field.

The positions open are:

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (EC)

President Elect: The President Elect has the responsibility of contributing to the direction of ASPE and the fulfillment of its goals. The President Elect will serve as President after the 1-year term as President Elect.

The President of ASPE is a two-year position served after the President Elect position has been successfully filled for one year. The general responsibility of the President is to create, communicate, and implement the association’s vision, mission, and overall direction to the Board. The President oversees the complete operation of ASPE in accordance with the direction established in the strategic plan. The President is the face of the Organization to the membership and the public.

The Past President is a one-year term served following the completion of the President’s term, with the responsibility of providing continuity and continuing to contribute to the goals and direction of the organization.

Vice President for Finance: The Vice President for Finance is a three-year elected position (2 years active & 1-year advisory) responsible for the association’s overall financial health, provides financial oversight to the Conference Committee, and manages the organization's marketing. The Vice President for Finance is an active member of the Executive Committee and attends regular meetings.

Member Liaison: The Member Liaison (ML) is a two-year elected position.  The ML represents the interests of the general membership, conducts projects, and is a liaison representing the membership to the Executive Committee of ASPE. The candidate must reside within the US or Canada and represent the national community on the board of directors. Potential projects include:

  • Capturing an oral history of SP methodology by building a library of interviews
  • Developing new resources for the members-only area of the website
  • Expanding content in the Virtual Library on special topics (e.g., moulage, inter-professional education, compiling FAQs from the list-serve)
  • Other projects with approval from the Executive Committee

Service on the board requires the individual:

  • To attend a monthly, one to two-hour Board of Director's call.  The President Elect and the Vice President for Finance will also attend two additional Executive Committee Meeting calls each month
  • To travel to and participate in two face-to-face retreats per year (after IMSH and before the ASPE Annual Conference). These may be substituted with a virtual meeting at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
  • To complete additional outside work on projects that benefit members.  Hours spent on these projects differ by committee and project.
