Standards of Practice Committee

MISSION STATEMENT

To develop, maintain, and disseminate standards of best practice for SP Educators in order to define the principles, practices, and values expected of the profession.
 
The Standards of Practice Committee develops, updates, and disseminates standards of best practice using a variety of methodologies and resources. The committee engages in scholarly methods to develop evidence-informed guidance for the multiple aspects of human simulation, including program design and administration, scenario and supplemental resource development, training, and professional development.   The committee also engages in strategic dissemination of standards of practice through publications, presentations, webinars, and online resources.
  

ASPE's SOBPs

ASPE Standards of Best Practice (SOBP) were published in 2017 in Advances in Simulation. Click here to read them. The SOBP's are intended to be used in conjunction with the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards of Best Practice: SimulationSM, which address broader simulation practices. You can read them here.

2026 GOALS 

  1. Publish the Physical Exam Teaching Associate (PETA) Standards of Best Practice (SOBPs) and companion paper.
  2. Publish a revision of the 2017 ASPE SOBP and a companion paper.
  3. Prepare supplemental materials for publication to ASPE’s website.
