Arthur Brooks explores a vast array of studies and literature to answer tough questions about working while aging: whether a decline is inevitable, at what age that decline occurs, and how to continue to find value and validation through the decline. Many people who achieved remarkable things at a younger age suffer stagnation and depression in their later years, but Brooks illustrates another path by contrasting the examples of Johann Sebastian Bach and Charles Darwin. He also addresses those who’ve missed their window to reach professional goals, using his own childhood ambitions of greatness as a musician. To find answers, he makes recommendations from literature and research, and introduces beneficial ideas from Eastern religions.
