The ASPE Standards of Best Practice

ASPE members from around the world have contributed to the development of the ASPE Standards of Best Practice (SOBP). The standards were written to ensure the growth, integrity and safe application of SP-based education practices. The standards identify five domains: safe work environment; case development; SP training for role portrayal, feedback, and completion of assessment instruments; program management, and professional development.The domains are divided into principles which are elucidated by key practices that offer practical guidelines for desired outcomes and safe simulation practices. The SOBP are intended to be used in conjunction with the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards of Best Practice: SimulationSM, which address broader simulation practices. You can read them here.

As the copyright owner of the ASPE Standards of Best Practice, ASPE welcomes you to cite and use the Standards in your presentations and publications. Please verify you are in compliance with U.S. copyright law by:

  1. Entering into a license agreement with ASPE before reproducing the ASPE Standards of Best Practice, in its entirety, for print or online publications.
  2. Correctly referencing the ASPE Standards of Best Practice by using the full name the first time the ASPE Standards of Best Practice are referenced in any document or promotional materials: ASPE Standards of Best Practice (SOBP).  Once the full name has been referenced, it is acceptable to use the shortened ASPE SOBP in subsequent references in the document.
