Control: Establishing and Maintaining SP reliability Linda
Morrison, SIU School of Medicine and Maurice Kavanagh,
Wayne State University School of Medicine
A
key task for SP Educators in preparing and supervising SPs in a testing
situation is establishing and maintaining SP reliability for case
presentation and checklist/rating scale completion (both H&P and
communication/interaction). Maintaining the quality and
consistency of SP performance is necessary to ensure that all students
receive the same information/impressions, while SP checklist/rating scale
accuracy critically impacts students’ scores. A
thoughtful and carefully planned Quality Control procedure can help ensure
successful results. But monitoring performance is a
time-consuming activity, which translates into extra costs, longer hours,
and/or expanded tasks. This web-seminar will
include presentation and discussion of strategies that can be used
throughout the training and testing process to establish and maintain
quality SP performances, with an eye towards using available funds and
resources efficiently.
