Committee Chair Descriptions

Chair, Conference Committee

The Chair will convene the meetings, solicit reports, and report progress to the Board of Directors monthly or as needed.  The Chair will determine when/what conference decisions or issues should be reported to the Board of Directors.  The BOD must approve the committee chair appointment.

Functions:

  • Schedule and conduct all CC meetings
  • Maintain communication with all of the individuals involved in conference planning
  • Conduct all communication with Regional Site Reps
  • Visit future sites to choose venue, obtain room layout, and convey layout specifics to SCCS&PD
  • Conduct the conference debrief upon conclusion of the conference
  • Discussion on and selection of plenary speakers and plenary themes (see sample invitation letters: AAMC, International) 
  • Assure that committee members are meeting timeline goals
  • Initiate discussion, then selection of invited presentations and complimentary registrations
  • Update and maintain the Conference Planning Guide and appendices
  • Review and finalize the syllabus and daily schedule before press
  • Provide timely decisions as needed for ASPE Admin
  • Assist SCCS&PD as needed
  • Review/revise conference survey yearly
  • Assist ASPE Admin as needed

Chair, Education and Professional Development Committee

The Chair of the Education and Professional Development Committee is a two-year position appointed by the President. The Education and Professional Development Committee is a standing committee of the Association of Standardized Patient Educators.

Functions:

  • Participates as a member of the Board of Directors attending monthly Board of Director (BOD) meetings and special meetings as scheduled, both onsite (2-3 per year) and via teleconferencing.
  • Appoints (with BOD approval) members for the Education and Professional Development Committee.
  • Convenes monthly meetings of the Education and Professional Development Committee via the telephone bridge or at national meetings related to Standardized Patient Educators.
  • Provides leadership for achieving committee's goals by directing, monitoring and evaluating committee activities.
  • Maintains communications with committee members and keeps records of committee activities/meetings.
  • Provides monthly reports to the ASPE Board of Directors.
  • Provides quarterly reports to the Chair of the Publications/Website Committee for use in the ASPE Quarterly (membership newsletter).
  • Establishes and reviews annual and longitudinal committee goals.
  • Oversees the annual call and review process for proposals for presentations at ASPE annual meetings.
  • Assists with conference and meeting planning and production.
  • Attends ASPE Annual Conferences, Membership Business Meetings, and related Board meetings.
  • Attends AAMC annual meetings and other national and/or international medical education meetings, as possible, to promote ASPE.

Chair, Grants and Research Committee

The Chair of the Grants and Research Committee is a two-year position appointed by the President. The Grants and Research Committee is a standing committee of the Association of Standardized Patient Educators.

Functions:

  • Participates as a member of the Board of Directors attending monthly Board of Director (BOD) meetings and special meetings as scheduled, both onsite (2-3 per year) and via teleconferencing.
  • Appoints (with BOD approval) members for the Grants and Research Committee.
  • Convenes quarterly (at minimum) meetings of the Grants and Research Committee via the telephone bridge and at national meetings related to Standardized Patient Educators.
  • Provides leadership for achieving committee's goals by directing, monitoring and evaluating committee activities.
  • Maintains communications with committee members and keeps records of committee activities/meetings.
  • Provides monthly reports to the ASPE Board of Directors.
  • Provides quarterly reports to the Chair of the Publications/Website Committee for use in the ASPE Quarterly (membership newsletter).
  • Establishes and reviews annual and longitudinal committee goals.

Chair, International Committee

The Chair of the International Committee is a two-year position appointed by the President. The International Committee is a standing committee of the Association of Standardized Patient Educators.

Functions:

  • Participates as a member of the Board of Directors attending monthly Board of Director (BOD) meetings and special meetings as scheduled, both onsite (2-3 per year) and via teleconferencing.
  • Appoints (with BOD approval) members for the International Committee.
  • Convenes bi monthly meetings of the International Committee via the telephone bridge or at national meetings related to Standardized/Simulated Patient Educators.
  • Provides leadership for achieving committee's goals by directing, monitoring and evaluating committee activities.
  • Maintains communications with committee members and keeps records of committee activities/meetings.
  • Provides monthly reports to the ASPE Board of Directors.
  • Provides quarterly reports to the Chair of the Publications/Website Committee for use in the ASPE Quarterly (membership newsletter).
  • Establishes and reviews annual and longitudinal committee goals.
  • Appoints liaisons for the other ASPE Committees.
  • Supports networking and collaboration among Standardized/Simulated Patient (SP) programs (educators) worldwide.
  • Fosters regional or national sp-contact people who can play a stimulating role in their geographical region.
  • With the committee provides a stimulating workshop at the annual ASPE Conference.
  • Works closely with other international conferences related to Standardized/Simulated Patient Educators.
  • Assists with conference and meeting planning and production.
  • Attends ASPE Annual Conferences, Membership Business Meetings, and related Board meetings.
  • Attends AAMC annual meetings and other national and/or international medical education meetings, as possible, to promote ASPE.

Chair, Membership Committee

The Chair of the Membership Committee is a two-year position appointed by the President. The Membership Committee is a standing committee of the Association of Standardized Patient Educators.

Functions:

  • Participates as a member of the Board of Directors attending monthly Board of Director (BOD) meetings and special meetings as scheduled, both onsite (2-3 per year) and via teleconferencing.
  • Appoints (with BOD approval) members to the Membership Committee.
  • Schedules and conducts meetings (at least monthly) of the Membership Committee.  Supervises and assists with committee projects.  Maintains communications with committee members and keeps records of committee activities/meetings.
  • Develops membership policies and procedures for review by the Board.
  • Provides monthly reports to the ASPE Board of Directors.
  • Provides quarterly reports to the Chair of the Publications/Website Committee for use in the ASPE Quarterly (membership newsletter).
  • Establishes and reviews annual and longitudinal committee goals.  Provides leadership for achieving committee's goals by directing, monitoring and evaluating committee activities.
  • Plans and oversees membership recruitment and retention activities.
  • Answers and/or directs member questions to appropriate resources.
  • Maintains aspe@aspeducators.org email inbox and saved mail folders, answers member email or forwards to correct person for response.
  • Maintains direct contact with members through regular Membership Updates. 
  • Publicizes and promotes ASPE and ASPE-related projects in related media, academic journals and announcement lists.
  • Assists with conference and meeting planning and production.
  • Attends ASPE Annual Conferences, Membership Business Meetings, and related Board meetings.
  • Attends AAMC annual meetings and other national and/or international medical education meetings, as possible, to promote ASPE.

Chair, Publications and Website Committee

The Chair of the Publications and Website Committee is a two-year position appointed by the President. The Publications and Website Committee is a standing committee of the Association of Standardized Patient Educators.

Functions:

  • Participates as a member of the Board of Directors attending monthly Board of Director (BOD) meetings and special meetings as scheduled, both onsite (2-3 per year) and via teleconferencing.
  • Appoints (with BOD approval) members for the Publications and Website Committee.
  • Schedules and conducts meetings (at least monthly) of the Publications and Website Committee.
  • Solicits quarterly reports from ASPE Standing Committees.
  • Solicits content contributions from ASPE membership.
  • Develops and edits content as Editor-in-Chief for the ASPE Quarterly (membership newsletter).
  • Supervises design, layout and posting of ASPE Quarterly.
  • Makes recommendations to the BOD regarding website design and needs.
  • Supervises implementation of website changes and updates.
  • Reviews website content, supervises updates and checks viability of web-links.
  • Supervises the electronic aspects of the elections process and other voting activities (posting ballots, collecting data) and reports data to the Vice-President for Operations.
  • Assists with conference and meeting planning and production.
  • Attends ASPE Annual Conferences, Membership Business Meetings, and related Board meetings.
  • Attends AAMC annual meetings and other national and/or international medical education meetings, as possible, to promote ASPE.

Chair, Standards of Practice Committee

The Chair of the Standards of Practice Committee is a two-year position appointed by the President. The Standards of Practice Committee is a standing committee of the Association of Standardized Patient Educators.

Functions:

  • Participates as a member of the Board of Directors attending monthly Board of Director (BOD) meetings and special meetings as scheduled, both onsite (2-3 per year) and via teleconferencing.
  • Appoints (with BOD approval) members for the Standards of Practice Committee.
  • Schedules and conducts meetings (at least quarterly) of the committee via the bridge and at national meetings related to Standardized Patient Educators.
  • Provides leadership for achieving committee's goals by directing, monitoring and evaluating committee activities.
  • Maintains communications with committee members and keeps records of committee activities/meetings.
  • Provides monthly reports to the ASPE Board of Directors.
  • Provides quarterly reports to the Chair of the Publications/Website Committee for use in the ASPE Quarterly (membership newsletter).
  • Establishes and reviews annual and longitudinal committee goals.
  • Plans for the development, review, and publication of ASPE white papers regarding standards of practice in SP education.
  • Assists with conference and meeting planning and production.
  • Attends ASPE Annual Conferences, Membership Business Meetings, and related Board meetings.
  • Attends AAMC annual meetings and other national and/or international medical education meetings, as possible, to promote ASPE.
