Pre-Conference Trip
Festival Acadien, Lafayette LA

Our bus will depart at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2004 from the Fairmont Hotel for the two-hour drive to Lafayette. Once there, we will tour a typical turn of the century Cajun village. Dance instructors will teach us the traditional Cajun waltz and even a few Zydeco steps, before we head off to Festival Acadien.

Festival Acadiens is held each year to celebrate Cajun culture, as it was 100 years ago and still exists today. Food – always good; music – strictly South Louisiana French; and crafts - such as weaving, woodworking and quilting will be demonstrated and available for purchase. Mais cher I promise you gonna pass a good time.

Dress is comfortable: wear layers, closed-toed shoes (these Cajuns are spirited dancers) and you may want to include a hat for the sun. The bus will depart around 6:30 for the two-hour return trip to New Orleans.

aspe2004neworleans.com will be updating the Festival page with links, items of interest and more information as it becomes available over the next few months.
