Donald J. Palmisano, MD, JD, is the 158th President of the American Medical Association. In addition to his responsibilities as AMA President, he is a general and vascular surgeon in private practice in New Orleans, Clinical Professor of Surgery and Clinical Professor of Medical Jurisprudence at the Tulane University School of Medicine, and founder and president of Intrepid Resources®.

Being both a physician and an attorney, Dr. Palmisano fully understands the potentially devastating effects of malpractice and liability claims. Through Intrepid Resources®, a medical risk management company, Dr. Palmisano, is able to help his clients reduce risks of costly claims by providing a full range of risk management, claims management, and patient safety services. He is a strong proponent of physician-patient communication which he often speaks of within his Risk Management in a Capsule. The Capsule is a list of 26 risk management guidelines that include effective communication skills, proper informed consent, compassion and investigation of patient complaints
