Timeline Strategies

Objective:
The purpose of this poster presentation is to inform conference participants of the importance of streamlining Clinical Skills Examinations using timelines for planning and follow-up. These timelines allow all staff to stay informed at all points of the process on progress, needs, and results of each exam executed by the Standardized Patient program and Assessment Office.

Methods:
This poster presentation will include examples of working documents which improve the professionalism of the Standardized Patient Program office by clarifying roles and responsibilities of all persons involved in the examination process.

Results:
A chart of progress will be provided in the poster. This chart will outline the progression of increasing complexity and responsibility taken on by the Standardized Patient Program at the University of New Mexico as a result of these timeline documents.

Conclusion:
Without streamlined communication, the process of planning and executing a Clinical Skills Examination is a difficult process. Communicating--not only with Standardized Patient Program staff, but also with medical faculty members, staff from building facilities, as well as such offices as those which provide medical supplies and models--is a complex process. Our timelines present a simple and efficient way of approaching this complexity in a professional manner.
